Dubai has strict driving rules and to start driving here, the first thing you need to do is apply for a driving license. I’m sure you have seen people giving up on applying for a driving license in Dubai every now and then. Yes, It’s hard but achievable only when you learn the procedure in the right way, right away with me!

To master the skill of driving and enjoying being in the driving seat, I’m going to guide you around with the procedures you need to follow before getting the passport to drive on the roads of Dubai.

Are you even eligible?

 The eligibility to apply for a driving license in Dubai is 18 years or above. If you belong to such age group then you can proceed further and keep your documents ready.

Streamline Your Documents

 You need to look for the following

  • Original & photocopied passport
  • Emirate ID
  • No objection certificate from the employer
  • 8 passport sized photos
  • Eye test report

Authorized Driving school is all you need

 To get trained from government recognized driving institutes will help in Quick issuance of driving license & absolves the trainee from the risk of enrolling in an unregistered Centre which might hamper the issuance of driving license.

Get trained

 The driving school will train you to pass the tough tests you’ll be going through. Based on your experience they will suggest you the number of classes you need to attend.

You may have to pay a minimum of 2700 Dirhams or more for your training classes. So it’s advised to pay attention and learn seriously to avoid retaking lessons which can prove expensive.

Who doesn’t need Training?

 Belonging to any GCC country and possessing a driving license can surely save you here! You can simply convert your existing license to UAE license with minimum requirements from RTA which can be done in 20 minutes.

 Internal test

 The internal test includes parking and garage test to get certified for the theory test. If you pass this, your driving school will book you for the RTA theory test and finally the road test.

Theory test

 The theory test is to examine your knowledge about road awareness and guidelines for safe driving. There will be 35 multiple choice questions to be answered in 30 minutes.

To pass, score 11 out of 17 general traffic rule questions and 12 out of 18 about specific driving license

For this, I highly recommend you to go through the RTA driving manual books and theory preparation classes. If you pass the test, get ready for your big day!

Road test

 You have come a long way to reach here. Don’t let the opportunity go. On your assigned date try to be early at least 30 minutes before it all starts. Come along with the documents such as your passport, driving file, and 2 photos. Fill up the form and pay the necessary fee. You will be called out for your turn and that’s it. You will be taken to the designated car to demonstrate your driving skills.

If you fail, you will have to again join a minimum of 7 driving classes to get a new test date. But if you pass, you can get your driving license with just a few simple steps.
